Asbestos Identification
RNET primarily functions as an asbestos testing laboratory and adheres to the strict standards set by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP). Following EPA Method 600\R-93\116, we focus on asbestos identification in bulk samples of building materials using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM). Samples we test may include, but are not limited to, insulation, ceiling tiles, wall texture, plaster, gypsum wall board, roofing materials, tape joints, floor tiles, sheet vinyl, and mastics.
For PLM testing, each differentiable layer of the sample is analyzed, asbestos fibers are identified, and the percentage of asbestos is determined using calibrated visual area estimation. Point counts can also be performed on samples with low levels of asbestos.
